A Master of Kitchens, Closets and Bathrooms Talks Luxury—and Changing Tastes

Alex Xakoustis of Italkraft on the challenges faced by Covid-19, how to create the perfect spaces to cook in, and more

Alex Xakoustis is the owner of Italkraft, a firm specializing in customizable kitchens, baths, closets and cabinetry. Mr. Xakoustis started the company in 2010 in Miami, and over the past few years has expanded to include showrooms in New York (one opened in 2019 in Manhattan’s Flatiron District); Miami (Doral), Wynwood, Aventura, and Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Washington, D.C.; Austin, Texas; Los Angeles; Panama and Italy.

Mr. Xakoustis, 50, who was born and raised in Greece—his family has long roots in the stone business, dating back to the 19th century—came to the U.S. in 1988 to study at Boston University and never left.

The company has a wholesale division, which makes kitchens for developer’s luxury condo projects. Its retail division focuses on single-family homes. Manufacturing is done in the hills above the Adriatic coast of central Italy, which has created some complications due to Covid-19.

We caught up with Mr. Xakoustis, from Miami, to discuss his clients’ changing tastes through the years, creating a three-story closet, and more.
