Insights from Salone del Mobile 2026

Every year, the global design community gathers in Milan for Salone del Mobile, the world's leading showcase for furniture, interiors, and product design. This event serves as a preview of the ideas and innovations that will shape homes in the years ahead, bringing together top designers, manufacturers, and industry leaders from around the world.

This year, I had the opportunity to attend this remarkable event alongside fellow designers from the ITALKRAFT team. Beyond showcasing creativity and passion for the art of design, Salone del Mobile is an exchange that allows us to explore new ideas that help us continue developing our craft.

Below, I’ve highlighted four of the most compelling trends I saw emerging across the exhibitions on display, each reflecting some of the industry's most exciting shifts.

The Return of Soft Tones to Neutral Color Palettes

  • Minimalism is still a strong style motif, but the color palettes that express this style best are changing. The cool whites that defined the last decade of modern design are now giving way to something warmer, softer, and more grounded. At this year’s Salone, I witnessed firsthand exhibitors leaning heavily into creamy off-whites, soft taupes, and light earthy browns drawing from the natural world and giving a bit more dimension to our calmest of design styles.

Curated Collections on Open Shelving

  • I noticed that many of the installations at Salone del Mobile featured structures with open shelving as a way to display a curated assortment of art, books, and decorative objects. From cleverly arranged floating shelves on walls to built-ins, these shelving options were a prominent component of the modern designs being exhibited. The open displays create a dedicated space to showcase one’s personal collections defined by one's tastes and interests while still adhering to modern design principles.

Earthy Materiality Defined by Travertine

  • After quietly building momentum across modern design corners, travertine arrived in full force at Salone 2026. Its appeal is easy to understand: the subtle veining, warm ivory tones, and slightly porous texture give it an effortless elegance that no engineered surface can replicate, contributing a beautifully natural look and feel. This is an especially exciting material for those seeking to transition between indoor and outdoor spaces with ease, as its durability and appearance makes it an ideal choice throughout the home.

Curved Forms Make Their Mark

  • As I explored the Salone, I noticed something remarkable: straight lines and edged shapes practically vanished. Rounded edges, soft silhouettes, and gently arched islands, work tables, and cabinets dominated the residential installations at this year’s fair. Curved forms have a way of making a space feel more organic and inviting, echoing the soft, flowing lines found in nature. Fluted cabinets were the prevailing style for the last few years, but now flat and curved cabinets are taking over, further emphasizing this latest obsession with dimension.

As a designer and leader at ITALKRAFT, I’m constantly seeking out new ways to elevate our work, ensuring we continue delivering exceptional design and craftsmanship to our clients. This Salone de Mobile provided an invaluable source of inspiration, giving us a firsthand look into the trends, materiality, and artistry shaping the future of our industry. We’re excited to bring these influences back to our team and further explore how they can be thoughtfully integrated into our clients’ living spaces.
